How to make a stunning business presentation

Whatever your role in the team is, sooner or later, you’ll need to make a business presentation for your colleagues, supervisors, or even for the big audience of investors. You may be asked to present the results of your work or plans for the future. So, what’s the best way to deliver your message? Let’s see.

Try to create not just slides, but a product

When the new product appears at the market, there are specific steps a company performs to promote it. At first, the company studies its audience, then generates ideas for the product, and finally tests and refines them until getting a finished product. Here’s a tried-and-true process of creating a presentation you can use anytime:

  • study the audience,
  • Sketch the ideas,
  • Test the ideas, show them to focus groups and collect feedback,
  • finalize the ideas until you get a ready-made presentation.

When they get a task to make ppt presentation, most people open PowerPoint straight away and start putting information on the slides. As a result, they get an “everything-that-was-in-the-fridge” kind of pizza. SPOILER: it doesn’t always turn out to be tasty. Don’t turn your presentation into a pizza-like slide show.

Impress your audience

If you have enough time and motivation to create something outstanding, start from communicating with your target audience. You may even conduct unofficial user interviews. When you get to know your audience and find out what they want to hear, keep following the standard product creation process. For example, the following:

  • start a brainstorming session on how to convey your message to people,
  • generate ideas for the presentation,
  • create content for individual slides,
  • make a couple of presentation prototypes with your best ideas,
  • show prototypes to colleagues and acquaintances to get valuable feedback,
  • use the feedback to determine what works in your presentation, what needs to be improved, and what needs to be vanished,
  • repeat the algorithm several times.

Do this as many times as needed until you get the perfect presentation. The whole process will take from several hours to several days, depending on the length and complexity of your project. But the result will worth the effort. Just remember that it’s better to show five pictures than to explain everything in words.

The following images should be added to any business presentation:

  • Who are you?
  • What is your product?
  • What are the advantages of your product?
  • Show your happy customers.
  • Show the indicators of your success.

Before making a speech, you need to pick up clear illustrations for your key messages. It doesn’t matter what you sell, be it lunch boxes, your advice, or life insurance. If someone is showing an outstanding presentation, this is most likely the result of hard work. On the other hand, oral presentation to the audience is significantly different from the one meant for reading (for example, the one you send via email).

Here are the things you have to consider before sending the presentation meant for reading:

  • The title slide always sells. Your first picture should be provocative, unusual, and engaging. While looking at this picture, your audience should want to learn more.
  • There should be minimum text. Most people read the presentations only briefly. Do not discourage them by adding large volumes of text to your presentation.
  • An excellent reading presentation should not have more than 10 to 30 slides. According to statistics, people hardly read any further.
  • Choose images that reflect the meaning of the slides. Write a sentence and try to illustrate it with a picture.
  • Use call-to-actions. Indicate clearly what exactly your recipient should do after watching the presentation. “Call me,” “Fill out the form,” “Send a message,” — write these call-to-actions and wait for results.
